The Netsuite – Rootstock premier partnership was formed based on a desire by both companies to provide a ‘best and first in class’, feature rich, scalable SaaS solution to the Small Medium Enterprise Manufacturer. Rootstock’s business mission is to provide a ‘best of breed’ SaaS, multi tenant, contemporary application that will enable discrete manufacturers to cut costs, improve processes, incorporate and use the information from the Material Requirements Planning and Shop Floor Scheduling engines. In their previous careers, the founders of Rootstock have developed an entire ERP on-premise software package for discrete manufacturers and they recognized that building an ERP system, of equivalent functionality as found in the largest of manufacturers, would take a number of years. Yet the demand for such an ‘on demand’ system loomed large for SME Manufacturers. Not only did the development of the robust manufacturing software, as envisioned by Rootstock , take time, but equally challenging was the creation of a sales and distribution channel. The approach to solving both of these problems was therefore not to develop a complete ERP system from scratch but rather to add engineering change control, cost accounting, shop floor control, and manufacturing resource planning (MRP) to a SaaS ERP solution that already enjoyed a large following in the ERP space. In so doing, manufacturers could gain centralized, integrated, and cost-effective control over all key processes across the enterprise – and from the recognized market leader in SaaS ERP. Rootstock Software discovered that the key to resolving these challenges was a both a business and development partnership with NetSuite. By partnering with NetSuite, Rootstock was able to complete the manufacturing functionality in under 18 months. Netsuite, also excited about entering this market place as ‘first mover’, recognized the immediate benefit of offering such a core manufacturing solution embedded within their current ERP product to their direct sales force and VAR channel. As the market leader in grabbing Saas ERP market share, NetSuite has a large direct sales force, an established and expanding VAR channel, and an outstanding Web site that publishes information about partner solutions. Equally compelling is that they opened these distribution channels to their development partners so Rootstock was able to launch their product with minimal sales or marketing investment. Of importance to Rootstock was the availability of NS-BOS, NetSuite’s comprehensive development tool set. NS-BOS enabled Rootstock to leverage the existing NetSuite ERP platform, their domain expertise, and the Saas ‘multi-tenant’, distribution model to create an application that added significant value to the NetSuite environment for discrete manufacturers. With NS-BOS, the enhancements that Rootstock brings are available to end-users transparently, through the standard NetSuite user interface, and with the same look and feel as the core Netsuite ERP solution. The Rootstock functionality is currently implemented at a multi site Netsuite discrete manufacturing customer. The Rootstock development team has been working closely with Netsuite product development over these past months in bringing the product to market. Combined selling team approaches have been underway since December 2008 and customers have enjoyed a combined implementation support team from both Netsuite and Rootstock personnel. With the completed Rootstock solution now available, marketing efforts with Netsuite have been initiated as the partnership enters the next stage of its productive and exciting relationship. |
